Welcome to Class 6's summer blog! This term we have been looking at the fantasy theme in our literacy week, and decided to explore the world of castles and dragons. We were lucky enough to be invited to be involved in a project with Rotherham College of Art and Technology in which children and parents were invited to watch the film 'How to train your Dragon' at the Sheffield Showroom. Everybody had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the film, and the work that the children have produced has been fantastic. Last week the family learning sessions concentrated on creating plasticine dragons which look fantastic and are currently displayed in Class 5.
The following week we followed this up with a visit to Consibrough Castle. The weather was fabulous, and after a tour of the castle, and time to dress up in costumes from castle times, we had our picnic in the grounds, did some sketching of the castle and held a medieval style team game tournament.
We now have a large castle in our role play, and a castle and dragons in our small world, for us to make up our own fantasy stories.
Our Creative Partnership Artists have been involved heavily with us this term, and together we have created a large dragon using large cardboard boxes, designed from drawings from 2 children in class. We have used this dragon in much of our drama work this term.
Class 6's assembly was on Friday 2nd July, and was based on all our fantasy work about castles and dragons done this term. Everyone did fantastically well, and we hope our parents enjoyed it.
